Hi Jim,

could you try to compile:

Simbelmyne by Sam ROELANTS, France
https://github.com/sroelants/simbelmyne

Never compiled yourself before (HCE engine).

Last version on GitHub is: v1.10.0 (240822) ... engine have birthday today!
Since this time, newer changes are available.

Interesting can be:

Zangdar by Philippe CHEVALIER, France
https://github.com/Carbecq/Zangdar

Before you asked:
How it is possible?

I created for a while a small test for different ECO codes.

Which of the codes are most complicated for engines?
The own FEOBOS project helped me at first, and all the own eng-eng games I have in my database. At the moment around 3 Million of games (no blitz games).

Build a TOP-24 ECO code list x 3 positions = 72 positions!
That are equal positions with many pieces on board ... avoid draw is the topic!
Positions, four moves after ECO code is building (FEOBOS was three moves).

So I have 72 test-positions!

As next I compare the results from the 72 test-positions with each of the engines.
I am using TOP-100 enignes or engines in the near of TOP-100.

The results by the enignes I have in an Excel file.
Now, as next ... I am looking, which engines give me the most interesting results for each of the 24 different ECO codes (x 3 positions). If possible and engine can do that, I saved from the mainline, move 1, 2, 3, 4, 5. In most of cases isn't the first move the interesting move.

Unfortunately:
Often results by different engines are very closed.

After ...
Engines plays a tournament, each one against each other.

Such tourneys are running with a longer time control.

With the final result:
Newer produced lines by engines, goes in a very special opening book. Often 8-10 moves after the end of ECO-Code building.

Before I add new lines in the book, the end of the line is checked by my TOP-10 favorits of engines.

Not many work, most is automated! Most work are to find out the 72 test-positions to 24 ECO-codes.
I have a lot of fun with that work, much more as with a simply ratinglist.

The tourneys are interesting.
Engines are in 4 playing-strength groups.
Tourneys with 16 engines, from each of the playing strength groups 4 engines with the best ECO-code results. That are tourneys to one of the lines, speaking before.

With the final result:
Fun pure ... in the time the games are running with good results for _my very special opening book_.
The draw rate is very small.

Best
