A while back I was creating something similar to cutechess-cli when someone mentioned that xboard now has a headless mode.
Well I downloaded the latest source tried the -noGUI option and it's not really headless.
Rather than completely disabling the GUI front end it still displays it just doesn't update it with moves.
Is there a way to use xboard in a truly headless fashion?
I tried iceDrone, even after some tweaking to get it to compile it doesnt seem to work.

Re: Headless xboard
Not yet.
The -noGUI option was provided to prevent wasting CPU time on GUI functions, and allow ultra-fast games. But it seems there also is a market for people that want to rn XBoard without an X-server. So perhaps I will extend the action of the -noGUI option in the future to that.

Nifty, I think cutechess-cli takes care of most of the needs for running two engines on the command-line. The reason I was mostly wanting a headless version was the zippy part.
Basically a working icsdrone client
but haven't been able to get icsdrone to work and takes to much bandwidth to pipe an X app over the internet.

You can do this with Xvfb (or Xvnc). See here

Is this for FICS? In that case you can use icsdroneng.Basically a working icsdrone client Smile but haven't been able to get icsdrone to work

It probably does not work for ICC.
