I just did some research using Chessbase and found that the position is from the following game between two masters rated over 2400. The best line was not played however, so not really a spoiler.

Qe6. Took me two minutes so I would not have seen it in a real game when in time trouble. Also then you get no hint that it is a mate in three.

OTOH you would not be presented the position with a blank mind in that case, and might have already been planning for that mate a long time.

Isn't that the truth, no clue what so ever in a real game. As HGM states, in a real game you may have been planning for it. In that case chances are good that you may have seen it. :wink:
