I am curious if there is an engine that can find the Mate in 23 fast if it can't use its tablebases, especially with 6 men or more of course. Crafty was handicapped here, especially because the NNUE is not so fast of course but you could just count the number of nodes instead for better comparison with fast HCE (Crafty or otherwise). In time, it was just over 9 hours (552 minutes) But the handicaps were big:

1.) No tablebases, no Syzygy in this case, because it is Mark's UCI + NNUE version of Crafty.
2.) Crafty's search pretty much only extends checks, as far as I can see, I did not yet really investigate further if I missed some other extension. Singular extensions help here, in theory, if there are forcing (and singular) moves that are not checks. On the other hand I think Stockfish now really sucks on the Plaskett puzzle if, in my case, it can't use any EGTB's. Bob disliked the Rybka/stolen by Stockfish singular extensions, he wanted the real Deep Blue version, or nothing at all :).
3.) It (Crafty 25.6.1) had already seen, by itself completely, that 20...e2 led to a +M27 and I restarted the search so, being Black it started looking for a better alternative which otherwise would have ended up on the other side of the PV and thus much shorter (nullmoves etc.). Now all the PVs with 20...h5 take up seas of time and in the end Crafty sees it does not have better than 20...e2. By this time it had also lost the exact +M27 PV, as you can see in the output.

So 9 hours should be easy to beat even if you do not know it is a +M27, or shorter. Crafty knew too much, as someone once said, of Chess Tiger I think it was. Way in the past...
