Post by chrisw »

ChessSystemTal-E1019 Elo optimised version, use me for ELO rating list testing

ChessSystemTal-E1162-EAS aggressiveness optimised version, use me for EAS, aggression rating list testing

ChessSystemTal-EXTREME wildly aggressive optimised, sacrificed Elo for sacrificial play, tops both EAS lists, says Ed

ChessSystemTal-ABSURD maniacal on steroids optimised version, sacrificed everything for crazy sacrificial play, you might even win against me, human.

Have fun! Bug reports and gripes to other threads please.

Hi there,

at first, thank you!

After all I understand the version history for EAS is difficult to understand!?

v2.1 EAS on Ed Schröder's site
v2.06 EAS on your site (newer version).
Is a lower version number more recent?

Another question is whether a new test is necessary for:

v2.06 ... if 2.0 has been tested
v2.06 EAS ... if 2.1 EAS has been tested
v2.06 Extreme ... if Extreme has been tested

I think ...
v2.06 (the main engine?)
v2.06 EAS
v2.06 Extreme
v2.06 Absurd

are more playing styles from v2.06.
After all I understand the main engine is the same, the NN file is different?

So, more clear in my opinion is an "all in one engine" with the UCI Feature "Playing style".
Here user can config the style he like to use as UCI feature!
Why not a different playing style with an other network in use as UCI feature, available in one *.exe file.

Or:
One *.exe file and four different network files.
User can load the network file via UCI option / feature.

On the other hand:
Programmers don't have to do everything the same way. The more diversity and different perspectives there are on any given topic, the more interesting it becomes.

All things considered: The more chaos there is in terms of different programmers using different approaches, the better... your own brain gets involved right from the start when choosing an engine.

Best
Frank

It seems the programmer Chris Whittington like a bit to produce "dramatics".
For each new bugfix a new thread in TalkChess?!
If other do that, means to open a new thread for change the sources ... we can produced thousands of threads and don't need GitHub.

And why:

1.
source code zip if a readme only is inside (github).

2.
a github site if no sources here are available and an own website is available?

3.
material are on two websites, on Ed Schröder's site and your site?
All this with different versions?

It's hard to explain all of this when you're linking to something.
It almost takes a whole essay to explain how to create a link.

My message will produce an army of answers from fan-club members.

:-)

But all in all ...
I don't know why ...
I like it

Engine is fantastic, It is undeniably more than just special. CSTal is more personal than any other engine and exactly this one is great. I am very happy a programmer do that with many experience in computer chess.

I like every chaos I am able to produce (talk about my own activities).

Your engine is great and stay in touch with a self created monument with a bit dramatic in my opinion ... the wonderful style of chess allows for a lot.

Sure, others will do the same if if the procedure is successful.
The younger generation are able to learn very fast, you know!

Hi Graham, not sure if this is worth running through your testing system, being just bug and feature fixes. It’s possible Ed has some better nets st some point. I’ve a +30 Elo net everything else the same but different format so marriage not possible.

Okay. Perhaps I'll wait and see what happens.

Are there compiles for older cpus out there? I have a Sandybridge Intel Core i7 which requires sse42 (something like that).

A CEGT friend tells me that the new CSTal 2.06 compilation with the NN Absurd seems to be significantly stronger than Ed's original Absurd 1.0. He has tested the old version and expect a significant improvement (more than 200 Elo), but I could be wrong.

Better check with Ed that I compiled the right version

I’ve not built any of those
