This is a very interesting one. 5-man should be relatively easy, 6-man considerably more difficult.
Is it much of a hassle to modify syzygy for two extra fairy pieces ?

The real hassle is probably to modify it for a 10x8 board. How the pieces move has very little effect on how you generate the EGT.

Would it be more practical to aim for Seirawan and 8x8 ?

So a piece that combines the knight and the bishop and another piece that combines the knight and the rook. Yes, that would be relatively easy to add. I am actually thinking of adding a bunch of fairy pieces, but I first want to finish my disk-based generator for regular pieces.Nordlandia wrote: ↑Tue Apr 21, 2026 1:53 pm Would it be more practical to aim for Seirawan and 8x8 ?
Dealing with 10x8 is not impossible. A lot of the generator code can be reused. But many changes are needed throughout the code, and basically I am not going to spend time on that. Maybe some day one can ask an AI to make the necessary modifications.

That's wonderful news Ronald.
I think a Knight + King is also of some interest. It is valued at a tad over 7 but not necessarily more than 7.5 While bishop + knight is almost ~8
At Chess.com variant server, i toyed around with custom setups and created Capablanca/Gothic Chess with the inclusion of K+N by gating it in with Seirawan rules.
Dragon King (Rook + Ferz) & Crowned Bishop (B + Wazir) is also pieces of interest.
