Hi Ed,

An interesting project. Other interesting candidate engines could be: The King, HIARCS, Junior, Morsch Fritz, and Strelka (aggressive style).

That's one nice list Steve, The King and Junior top my list because of the playing style, a NN can make a nice copy of it.

Regarding Junior, 1) which version, 2) does it have UCI and 3) can I buy it from someone against a symbolic price?

Regarding Rybka, mission impossible, on my 16 core / 32 threads PC even using only -concurrency 6 Rybka 3 and 4 are crashing after a couple of thousands games.

Fritz 10, the version that played Kramnik, is it UCI? It has the best Frans Morsch eval IMO.

Hi Ed,

Rybka is a little naughty and defaults to using all the threads for each instance. Could it be it's crashing due to this? Are you explicitly setting the number of threads to one? I've been testing Juggernaut against some classic engines (Tao, YACE, SOS) using Fastchess. I have been amazed at how many errors (invalid PVs) Fastchess identifies.

Junior does have UCI versions. Not sure it's still available for purchase. I have a copy.

Maybe Franz has a UCI version, but I've never come across a UCI version. Does anyone have his contact details?

The King is available as a UCI version, as is Strelka.

Junior Yokohama UCI is apparently still availlable for purchase using the Hiarcs homepage.

As I recall it came with different exes for single thread and SMP ? What I have here:

Deep Rybka 4.1 x64
Rybka 4.1 x64

I'm sure Ed would be using the single CPU one

(It has a separate exe for Chess960 too)

I never ran concurrency with it back in the day

Full support. LOVE ideas like this.

IMO they keep computer chess alive and interesting moreso than endless Elo increments.

Wouldn't it also be cool to have slightly weaker, but interesting "Guests" (I like this term  ) like, for example:

-Thinker 5.3B Inert
- The Baron 1.8.1
- WChess 1.06
- Gandalf 5.1
- RomiChess
- Prodeo 1.2
- Comet A90

Just ideas of engines with unique styles, Rybka 4 , Junior and Morsch Fritz (which you mentioned) will of course, be super interesting too.

Watching with interesting. Full speed ahead.

Sure thing.

Using -concurrency for reasons unknown does strange things with the PC memory management, sooner or later followed by a crash.

What a pity.
