Shashchess - how do you see "trace" output?

Post by royb »

Shashchess documentation mentions "trace" info that is supposed to help humans better understand what the engine is seeing - things like this knight is the strongest piece on the board and other such stuff.

What I do not see mentioned anywhere and Google searches don't provide useful info either - is how to actually see this trace info. I'm assuming it's a UCI parameter? However nothing in that list of options seems related to this trace function to my eyes.

Can someone shed some light on this for me?

Thanks!

You have the trace with the 'eval' (non uci) command.

So don't run Shashchess in a GUI then? Run it in a terminal window to allow the use of the eval command?
