On-line engine blitz tourney August

The monthly on-line engine blitz tourney for August will take place on:

Saturday August 5, 2:00 PM EST (Boston time), 20:00 CET (Amsterdam time)

To connect:

winboard -zp -ics -icshost nightmare-chess.nl -icshelper timeseal -fcp ENGINE.exe -fd ENGINEFOLDER -autoKibitz -keepAlive 30

(for UCI engines, add -fUCI)

People without account can submit a request for an account to admin@nightmare-chess.nl

Our tournament manager will be: Eendje (Lisebeth at ICC)

The format will be: 9 rounds Swiss 5/1

Lisebeth likes to start the tournament on top of the hour, please try to be on-line 15 minutes prior to tournament start, late joins are not supported.

I'll try to participate for the first time this afternoon with my old engine MatMoi.

I just tested and I can connect my engine to the server with winboard. Is there anything else I need to do?

Also what gui do you guys use to watch the game and chat? Backin the days I was using Babachess I think, but it looks like it's not available anymore.

You can chat online in the server console.

For observing + chat, I have a separate account on the server, separate from the engine (I use Winboard for that). I assume the admin can make you one if you want. But most people are just observing their current engine game + chatting with whatever client their engine is on.

You don't have to do anything else, I just tried to match your engine and it seems to work fine.

If you want to observe the other games you need a separate interface and logon with your human account, I use Thief for this. It is not advisable to observe other games with the same interface you are playing with, it is my experience that this will mess up things completely.

There were not so many participants this time, I assume most people are on vacation.

Nightmare unexpectedly won the tournament with 8.5 points out of 9, it is all a matter of luck, it won from Goldbar and Marvin which are usually drawn games. Nightmare hasn't been changed for approximately 3 years, which gives me the feeling that there hasn't been much progress since.

Arasan is runner up, Goldbar an Marvin both share 3th place.

After being absent for a long time, Charles Roberson is back with his engine Ares, there were some problems with the communication between his engine and Winboard which made it lose some games, I assume the next tournament this problem will be solved.

Another engine that hasn't been participating before (or maybe in HGM's tournament) is MatMoi from Mathieu Page.
