It is surprising that Sweden is at the bottom of the list because I thought that it is a relatively feminist country so I expected to see releatively more female chess players in this country.

Interesting. Excluding small samples, basically western Europe at the bottom, especially northern part. Former communist Europe, some Asian, African and Latin American countries at the top. Seems the opposite to intensity of some progressive movements and trends.
