Alpha tester wanted for WinBoard ICS-analysis mode

Post by hgm »

I am currently incorporating all changes that had accumulated in GNU-Savannah XBoard web site after the release of Tim Mann's last WinBoard version (4.2.7b), but were so far never released from there, into WinBoard 4.3. Apart from a few minor bug-fixes this incudes internationalization (there will soon be a Turkish version of XBoard 4.3  ), and the possibility (added by Daniel Mehrmann) to use analysis mode when observing games on an ICS in zippy mode).

For the latter change I am looking for a tester, as I have never used analysis mode myself, and have no idea what it is supposed to do. What I especially want to know is the following:

* Does normal analysis mode still work?
* Does it interfere in any way with the engine-output window of Winboard_x?
* Should something be done here to make anaysis mode use the engine-output window, rather than its own analysis output window, or is the situaton satisfactory s it is?
* If you log on to an ICS in zippy mode, with an analysis-capable WB engine loaded, and start observing a game... Is it then possible to switch analysis mode on through the menu? Is the game properly analyzed by the engine, in that case?
* Again, is there any undesirable interference between the engine-output window and this ICS-analysis feature?

I posted an experimental winboard.exe with which you can try this at

Thanks for any help.
