Roxie: A Rust UCI Chess Engine (v0.6.3)

Post by sham_sujith »

Hi everyone,

I'd like to introduce Roxie, my hobby chess engine written entirely in Rust from scratch. I've been working on it over the past several months as a way to learn more about rust and chess programming, and I thought it was finally worth it to share with the community.

Current Features

- Alpha-beta search with iterative deepening
- Aspiration windows
- Transposition table
- Null Move Pruning (NMP)
- Late Move Reductions (LMR)
- Quiescence search
- Magic bitboard move generation
- History heuristic, killer moves, and continuation history
- NNUE halfkp evaluation with handcrafted evaluation fallback
- UCI protocol support and many more

The source code is available here:

https://github.com/sham-404/roxie

At the moment, I'm only providing a Linux x86-64 binary through the GitHub Releases page. Windows binaries are not available yet, but the engine can be built from source using Cargo.

I'm still actively working on Roxie, so I'd really appreciate any feedback, testing, suggestions, or code reviews from experienced engine developers. If you notice weaknesses in the search, evaluation, or anything else, I'd love to hear your thoughts.

Thanks for taking a look!

I am expecting about 2700 - 2900 elo. It is only single threaded for now, and under favorable circumstances, roxie had about 3000 elo when testing it against with other engines like timecat and lambergar in my hardware.

Thanks.
I'll have to wait for a Windows exe.
