In Germany lives a man who is important for Computer Chess and chess in general.

Let's praise Frederic Friedel.



He met almost any chess champion.
What seems like a fairy tale today may be reality tomorrow.

Met him at the WCCC in Paris in 1997. I was surprised that the man who founded what was probably the biggest computer chess company in the world at that time took a detailed interest in my views about things.

Chess position databases were a major contribution.
Human chess is partly about tactics and strategy, but mostly about memory

The one kid who didn't become so great in chess is quite the challenge - many could probably defeat little Pragg here though, except he did well with the 9 having learned the pattern ;) .

Frederic's enthusiasm playing with the kids is heart-warming IMO.
