I'm so sorry, I cannot see the "START" you are referring to. Which software exactly are you using please?

I am waiting for a Chinese Stockfish clone with hundred times less parameters running on slow hardware but playing even better.

Transfer EPD to CBH database

In the database window of the program, you have the option of inserting positions in EPD format into a CBH database.
To do this, proceed as follows:

- Switch to the database window of the program.
- Create a new database with CTRL-X or in the NEW - Database menu.

At the top of that Window there is File, Start, Database, View

Click on START, hover over left icon INSERT, then click on the small arrow pointing down, and choose insert epd.

I use Fritz 16

Thank you sarona,

I have set German language in my Fritz GUI because I live in a German-speaking area.

Yesterday, upon the stair,
I met a man who wasn't there!
He wasn't there again today,
I wish, I wish he'd go away!

THANK YOU BOTH!!!!
I have not felt that stupid for ages, I was looking around for this "start" button and thinking I was going mad.

Right that worked.

Just so you know, the option IS available in Fritz 19 (latest Fritz) but NOT available in Chessbase 17 or 18. Goodness knows why.

Jouni wrote: Fri Jan 17, 2025 9:18 am I ran Arasan testsuite 2024 with Stockfish dev 12.1. With 15 sec limit 6 cores got 174 correct (2 tries same result). Funnily 1 cores got 175!
Now I have this database, I will do the same test you did. [EDIT: with SF from December 2024]

In the meantime I tried a private difficult testsuite of 100 positions at a 2 minute limit and got this result on a 64 core Threadripper 3990X:

1 core: 79/100 average solve time: 8.28s
32 cores: 88/100 average solve time: 8.96s

Given that it's usually the harder positions which aren't solved, this shows clear progress from 1 to 32 cores. Maybe a touch lower than expected though?

Arasan 200 position testsuite. 15s per position

64/64 cores 180/200
1/64 cores 183/200

Yep...something is wrong.
