Zap!Chess Service Pack

Post by Kaj Soderberg »

Hi,

After years of collecting dust i installed Zap!Chess (64-bit) under Windows 8.

I just cannot find the update/service pack anymore that fixed the bug of sometimes crashing or making impossible moves. It's not there anymore as downloadable at Chessbase. Anyone still got that update, and care to share it with me?

Thanks,
Kaj

Considering that they still have Zap!Chess listed as a product that they are selling on their website, it is odd that Chessbase is not providing the update download anymore. Unless the current CD/DVD pressings have the updated engines included.

Anyway, glad it worked for you.

Hey,

Since you have Chessbase's Zap!Chess I don't know if you remember or not but in 2006/2007 Chessbase released an updated engine for Zap!Chess called "Zap!Chess Zanzibar".

Though I never ended up getting the Zap!Chess program, tonight I came across the Chessbase service pack downloads that I had burned to disc, and this includes the Zanzibar engine service packs. I had saved the service packs just in case I ended up purchasing the program one day.

The web archive did save a copy of the download page that has the Zanzibar engine service packs listed on it, as seen here, but the web archive did not save the download files.

I've uploaded the Zap!Chess service packs that I saved. This includes the two service packs that are on the web archive page that I linked to earlier, and the 32 & 64 bit Zanzibar engine service packs.

If you want them you can download them at the below link. All I can tell you about the files that are in the zip file is that I personally downloaded them from the Chessbase download page back in 2007. The Chessbase download page that I had saved is also included.

If anyone else wants the files they are welcome but the service packs are no good without the original installation program.

I want to be deleting my dropbox account in a few weeks but I'll leave the above dropbox link active until then.

If anyone still has the 32 bit Zanzibar engine service packs, please share..
