Starting positions for testing

Post by mathmoi »

Has anyone have a good set of starting positions for testing purposes?

I'd need somewhere between 1000 and 4000 starting positions. Are the ones used by Dr. Hyatt avaible? Is there any other avaible.

If there is not, I'll extract some from enormous.pgn I think.

Thanks

I think I put them on my ftp box. In any case, you can certainly have them. They are spread across a _bunch_ of different openings, all taken from something like move 12 or some such place. At least 1/3 (maybe more) still have uncastled kings, etc...

Hi, I just looked on your FTP site. And I can't locate them. Maybe they are there and I don't look at the right place.

Where are they?

In any case, thanks.

This file:
http://cap.connx.com/EPD/frequent.epd.bz2
contains 2,807 opening positions that are frequently encountered in real games among strong competition.

I just moved both them and Albert Silver's original 40 test positions into a directory named "tests". The filename for mine is "openings.epd"...

What's the server address? I think it used to be ftp.cis.uab.edu, but that one seems to be dead...

That's what I tried, but it didn't work this morning. Now, it does. I suppose the server was just temporarily down.

Thanks! :)

np.

I think you were using http:// instead of ftp://. At least the link you posted was.
