Did Deep Fritz 9 exist?

Post by Juan P. Naar »

Hello,

I'm wondering if a "Deep" version of Fritz 9 ever existed, or if the next Fritz released after version 9 was just 10. I know that Deep Fritz 8 and 10 exists, but I'm not sure if Deep Fritz 9 was released, since https://www.chessprogramming.org/Fritz doesn't mention it, and there are few Google results about it. Many thanks.

Hi,

the last "Deep" version before 10 is DeepFritz 8.1.4.0.

In times Fritz 9 is available, different versions for complementary products has made.
Maybe that was more in the foreground. Around with Fritz 10 the free sources from Fruit are available.
Fritz 10 made bigger jumpings to Fritz version 9.

Example:
Fritz 9.0.1.0 Fritz for Fun 5
Fritz 9.0.1.0 Schachmeister 2010

Same for 8er Edition:
Fritz 8.1.3.0 Fritz for Fun 4
Fritz 8.1.2.0 Kishon
Fritz 8.1.1.0 x3d Fritz

Elo differents between Fritz 8 to Fritz 9 aren't really big and Fritz 8.1.4.0 with 1 core are after my older results a bit stronger as 9.0.0.0.
I think these were the reasons!

But I am not a Fritz expert, maybe the others know more.

Best

Regardless of playing strength relative to today, Fritz (the REAL Morsch engine) was great and had a nice playing style.

The match against Deep Junior from 2001 was a huge pleasure for me to follow as a kid.

Hi Brendan,

I think most interesting are the older versions before 9 (if readers like tactical chess).
Fritz got more endgame knowledge and the tactical playing style lost more and more.

Matthias Feist helps Frans Morsch here (endgames) around since version 9 after all I know from Frans himself.
I had a nice small talk with him in Leiden, very nice programmer ... very friendly, each time in a funny mode.
Really a great person in computer chess.

At this time the American James Robertson developed Insomniac. Strength for the program, written by the 14 or 15 years old James was a bit stronger as Crafty in these times. James and his vather (Entomologist) participant in Leiden. James was also a talent in playing the piano, a big fan from Bach (same Tord Romstad is). So, Frans and James had nice discussions about chess programmings and both told me that that they were enthusiastic about the other.

:-)
These were very animated conversations and the two rather wanted to be among themselves. I had more Miss Winboard in mind, a great Lady, helps in Leiden around food and drink.

In the evening meal the vather from James told about spiders. But with my bad English I understand 30-40%. The Americans speaking to fast, singing with chewing gum in the mound, not easy to understand it for me.
