It seems that Chinese Xiangqi programmers are much better organized than we are. They have this wonderful chat client / messenger service (Tencent QQ), where they have set up a group where almost all programmers of strong Xiangqi engines hang out daily. The QQ client allows individual and group chats, where you can post pictures (e.g. screenshots), and hand over files by simply dragging them to the QQ input field. This way they give each other the latest, unreleased compiles of their engines.
Of course we have the ChessWar chat. But it is really not the same...

QQ is all the rage in China... I came back from there a few days ago, my girlfriend's parents even use it to book trips online directly with a travel agency (using voice and chat).

A real time chat would be fun. There is FICS's channel 64, but in the past couple years I've had maybe 5-6 conversations there and most where people running (C) not the actual authors or developers.
Could just setup a #chessprogramming channel on irc.freenode.net

It's a good start.
my nick on irc.freenode.net is 'diepchess'.
audio and voice is much better sometimes, not always. What is this software we need to use for that?
Does it work on a mac also?
I happen to have been convicted and doomed by a previous employer to use a mac (a windows box would get hacked too quickly anyway). So i cannot be online for example at the broadcasts of Leo nor Olivier nor others as there is nothing that works for a macbookpro intel.
Vincent
p.s. started a #computerchess channel there. yet i soon will need to give over to someone else there as not too many days from now this laptop will get shut down

Re: Chat Server for Engine Authors
i tried setup account at QQ. Succeeded probably as i got an email saying i succeeded. The Chinese was tough to read.
Then i tried to sign in that account with adium which has a QQ connection option. That failed so far. Have a try tomorrow as well.
If they got something that works - let's join it.
