Arena/GUI help

(1) I am trying to use Arena on 64-bit Windows 7 to analyze chess positions with chess engines, mainly Stockfish and Yace. To do this, I set level to infinite and click "Analyze".

Although this frequently works, equally often the GUI gets in states I do not understand. For example, sometimes the GUI refuses to make a move on the board, no matter what I do. Is there a fix for this or tips somewhere? How reliable is Arena?

(2) What's the best GUI for understanding and analyzing chess positions with a chess engine?
