Is there a technical reason for the position below not being in set of 6 piece nalimov tablebases (I do have all kqppkq files):
[d]8/1k6/2qQ4/2P5/1P6/1K6/8/8 b - - 0 58
Neither the chessbase gui interface nor fritz 12 with tablebases recognizes this as a tablebase position (so that fritz is happily calculating). Even though the position just before (the white queen came from f8) was in the set and everything worked fine. If you then play Qb5 for black, the position is again correctly recognized as tablebase and everything is fine. Any ideas?
Error in 6 piece nalimov tables?

Re: Error in 6 piece nalimov tables?
I haven't got this 6-men egtb file, so I can't check it on my computer. But I just tried it on one of the websites that probe the nalimov egtbs (http://www.k4it.de/index.php?topic=egtb) and the position made no problems. Did you try any other GUIs so far that are capable of endgame-tablebases, such as scid or Wilhelm?

Have you tried other kqppkq positions?
EDIT: I mean, there could be a similar pattern, in that one particular position occurring during analysis is not recognized while others are.

Yes, all other kqppkq work fine, only if the queens are on squares next to each other it fails.....Sven Schüle wrote:Have you tried other kqppkq positions?

Re: Error in 6 piece nalimov tables?
I already checked, because the gui/fritz12 code might probe the possible capture positions - but i have all 5 pieces including kppkq kqpkq. I still have no clue why the probing code from chessbase behaves this way...Sven Schüle wrote:Any required 3-4-5 men tbs missing, perhaps?IQ wrote:Yes, all other kqppkq work fine, only if the queens are on squares next to each other it fails.....Sven Schüle wrote:Have you tried other kqppkq positions?

could you try some other GUI to check, whether the bug is Chessbase or Nalimov related?IQ wrote:I already checked, because the gui/fritz12 code might probe the possible capture positions - but i have all 5 pieces including kppkq kqpkq. What is this world coming to....
Try a different GUI. If the problem occurs, check the md5sum of the tablebases.

Re: Error in 6 piece nalimov tables?
I use the same interface. Interestingly in chessbase light it sometimes works fine. It must be the gui probing code by chessbase which is at fault... so the bases are ok.
still strange...
