Opening book for Thinkerboard for pocket pc

Post by Larry »

Hi all, I just downloaded Thinkerboard for pocket pc, great for online
play from another part of the house, eg, the back patio. You can also
play chess against it, but alas, minus an opening book. Can anyone
out there please let me know, in layman's terms, how I go about
putting an opening book into this thing?
thanks and take care...

Alexandr has a number of books for Thinker here (he does a lot of pocket PC testing, using identical PDAs)
http://raitpref.hotbox.ru/ct-file.htm

After you expand the .rar files, you need to copy the Thinker.dat to the folder on your Windows Mobile device where you installed ThinkerBoard (Thinker.dat should be in the same folder where _StartThinkerboard.exe and ThinkerWCEDLL.dll are).

You can also create your own opening books for Thinker. For that, you need to download the desktop version of the engine. You need to run Makebook.exe or CreateBook.exe (a wrapper to MakeBook.exe). You give it a PGN file and it will produce a Thinker.dat opening book.
