We have removed a certain thread with the topic "Is <certain person> crazy".

Such topic is unacceptable.

Inside the thread this person was called a nazi. Without proof such an accusation is unacceptable.

Also trivializing software piracy (as done in the thread) is unacceptable.

All these things are breaking the charter.

If someone likes to discuss problems with certain products it is absolutely OK. But please stay away from personal vendetta and illegal activities.

Fair enough, the right course of action.

But I do want to pick up on Harvey's point about Fritz 11 not having a serial number, and the implication that it was piracy on the part of that user. It might not have been. Mine is 100% legal and paid for, and it does not have one. That is not piracy, it is the Excalibur licensed copy here:

http://www.excalibur-publishing.co.uk/fritz11.htm

Released some time after the Chessbase version, and at a cost of something like £10-£15 vs the £30 for the chessbase version. The Excalibur version does *NOT* ask for a serial number during installation, and it does *NOT* have one printed anywhere in the manual. The GUI is not updateable. And you can connect to playchess with it, although perhaps only as guest.

So, this could be another case of jumping to conclusions amid the piracy paranoia that is often present. I would hate to be accused of Piracy if I connected to playchess with this version. But I no longer use playchess so it wouldn't happen . Or, it could have indeed been piracy.

Sys ops can see exactly what version of the GUI a person is using and also the history of the person using it. In this case of the poster from yesterday there is history.
