Implementing the UCI "OwnBook" option

Post by Alessandro Scotti »

Hi,
following the post about the Polyglot format I tried to add the "OwnBook" option to my UCI engine.
I'm testing it under the Shredder 11 interface (on Mac OS X) and I'm a bit puzzled because such option actually does not appear in the engine properties.
Every option is there, but not that one. The option seems to work if I hardcode the values "false" or "true" in the engine, but I cannot find a way to change that value from the GUI... do you have experience with this and can help me understand what I'm missing?!? I thought I could change the settings like the others.

Note: if I rename the option as "Use Own Book" then it correctly appears in the GUI, so Shredder is doing something with "OwnBook".

The Shredder 11 interface on Mac is Junk. I've seen many anomalies with it over time. Don't use it.

Try it under Sigma chess, or Glaurung, or Scid, or Jose, or Polyglot. Them are all free and do a better job.

Good tip, thanks! I have downloaded Sigma chess and it seems to work fine there! :-)
