Thinker 5.1E pas vs. Shredder 9 SE, 25,5-24,5

Post by Mike S. »

5m+1s, Pentium D945 3,4 GHz
256 MB hash, ponder off(*)
S.Canbaz' new Top-25 openings
(both engines without tbs. access)

*) Thinker 5.1E doesn't ponder with Fritz+Wb2Uci+Vista.

Code: Select all

1 Thinker 5.1e-32 passive +21/-20/=9 51.00 25.5/50
2 Shredder 9 SE +20/-21/=9 49.00 24.5/50
Congratulations. - Thinker achieved this win against the engine which dominated up to December 2005, despite two losses on time where Thinker didn't start after the opening, and one very strange game where it always moved immediatly/randomly.

Here is a quick win (most were longer):

I don't think these should count as those were probably due to bugs on the Wb2Uci adapter.

I never noticed such problems with other WB. engines and Wb2Uci.

Btw., I did try to test Thinker 5.1E as WB. in Arena, not requiring Wb2Uci, but on another computer which still has Windows 98 SE. Thinker requires a newer Windows version.

It was an interesting test of a strong engine, but also with some 'technical problems'...

Yes, it seems there are incompatibilities with the WB2UCI adapter, but I recall it was a fault of the adapter (because without the adapter I'd expect the engine to behave correctly.)

Are you planning in releasing the games? (Remember chess is about the games ;).)

Here are the 50 games:

It is a 7z file; you need http://7-zip.org/ to decompress it. The games with the technical problems were no. 18,43,44.

Many thanks for the results. I have to agree I don't think the games lost solely to technical issues should be counted. If this were an official event, then so be it, but here the purpose is to test the engine's strength. Just my 2 cents.
