Any ZCT tests?

Post by swami »

I'm waiting for any tests on this engine, gauntlet or otherwise, to have an idea about its real ratings, so i could assume its division going by others rating estimation, and add it to my edition 9 tournaments.

Thanks in advance.

Hi Swami,

I interrupted tests because of 10 games, 8 lost with 'illegal move'.

Thanks for the info, Patrick. I admit I haven't read much about the engine in general topics thread.

Hi Swami,

Just played around 50 games or more with ZCT ...42b JA and ...043.
Latest 042b seems 200 points stronger than 043. Somewhere near
WJChess and Lime.

Jims 042b build specially compiled for Arena is the best version so far.
I suggest 043 version to be used without the default book. Then no
problem in Arena.

Smp versions hang or overload computer, therefore dont use them now.

I havent tested 043 cb builds.

Best,

It is playing in my "Dirty Twins" tournament at the moment(tc 60m+1s).
The first two games were lost due to the now fixed buggy mate claim.A win and a loss against bright 03.a.
Two further losses with the broken book version against hamsters.
And last two games versus Oxygen were lost as well.

It is in development and i'll very likely keep in in the next editions as well.
Best
Fonzy

edit:I am using it as a winboard engine ofcouse

Hi Patrick,

UCI support is known to be a little buggy right now. Jim and I are testing it out. I think the latest version should be pretty much fixed, I'm just waiting for the tests.

UCI is still not complete though, ZCT isn't fully aware of the time control so would probably be pretty conservative time-wise.

Hi Harun,

That seems pretty strange. There shouldn't really be a strength difference at all between them. Maybe a problem with a book or ZCT.ini? If it can't find ZCT.ini then it will use a very small default hash. It also seems that either ZCT varies wildly in strength or there are some newer bugs, the last testing I did (before I lost all of my testing setup) I had ZCT around 2400. It also won a nice game against Bright, but that would be a fluke anyways.

Once Jim posts the latest build and someone makes a nice book, it should be used with that, and with the XBoard protocol too.

Thanks for the testing though, guys.

Hi Patrick,
Hi,

I used the UCI version under Arena.
I installed ZCT as wb engine on Arena.

Only very few time forfeits.

Latest 043 version comes with a chessbase uci version.

Summary:

wb mode on Arena.

uci mode on CB GUIs

Hmm... should be NO forfeits. ZCT has usually been pretty good with time. Are you sure it isn't hanging? Maybe send an annotated PGN with time/depth/PVs, if you have them.

Swami, if I were you I would start Zct in your 6th or 7th division. I had started playing with the initial version, then I paused due to everyone complaining about something here and there. Now I have started playing with it again and should have about 100 games by tomorrow. Under our time controls its about the same strength as latest version of Ant.
