A few people, not you of course, but a few people have gotten the impression that i am pulling for Fritz 11 to win this match. Nothing could be further from the truth. First, the exclamation points i have added from time to time are because of my relative surprise at the score. Secondly, if i was going to pull for an engine- which i am not- why would not it be HIARCS. Mark has always been helpful to me, and has given me a much better deal than i ever got on Fritz. Thirdly, if a tester within a group starts pulling for certain engines- well, i guess it could be ok. But not a good idea IMO. So all in all- i just run them. And my credibility as a tester is much much more important to me than which engine wins which match.
PS: Again, not at all surprised Fritz 11 is winning. On any given day he can beat anyone, and that includes Rybka. So HIARCS has nothing to be ashamed of here. It was just the ease with which Fritz seemed to do it shocked me a bit. Remember, in the end when the dust settles- and if HIARCS 12 gains 40 or so elo over HIARCS 11- job well done by Mark. That elo difference is nothing to sneeze at.

Fully agree. People seem to expect +100 ELO these days, and with a top class engine at the level that Hiarcs 11.1 already was, that is incredibly difficult. Mark has done a good job with +40 or so.geots wrote: Remember, in the end when the dust settles- and if HIARCS 12 gains 40 or so elo over HIARCS 11- job well done by Mark. One of the advantages Rybka and other top engines have over Hiarcs is that they tend to get better with time. Hiarcs on the other hand pics a move and stays with it for a long time..I guess this would help Hiarcs in lightning matches or extremely fast blitz. I guess Mark could have easily messed with the material imbalance table and gained some strength improvement like GCP or Alex, but that would have killed its style.
