Is there EVER a value in "egos"? Other than principles, when holding your ground in questions of rights, or of what's truth and what's false.
Ego in oneself and in ones abilities, isn't that pure stupidity?
Ego in "truth" is something else. You can claim that what you have studied has been truth, or is truthfully competents, but that YOU are now going to prove your perfection, and then set about proving it?
This is like sayingthere is no G-d, only man, and that you are the G-d.

It's true that I e.g. am not afraid of being in the middle of deep water, not right next to the side, simply because I do not expect to faint suddenly (g-d forbid [a jewish addition when saying such things]), or some such loss of memmory that I'm in the water, or some sudden loss of motion, all of which are highly possible things, (or heart attack etc), but experience shows this to be very unusual whilst fully awake and in motion.

Well, this, must not imo be said in a prideful egoistic manner, that "I'm safe 100%, and I can prove it, just look", because you are trying G-d, who is really the decider in every thing in every second. If you do say it, it is ok if you trying to show someone something or the like, but not, with extreme obstinacy, without sense, but with ego.

Sorry Graham about going OT, I just got inspired! It is however very important to me, only that it may belong to a different thread. But it CAN be here too, as an exception being that I already typed it all. I mean I can't see myself bringing this up again in the near future. (It was a reaction when I saw your heading)

Is there a reason you use Arasan 10.0 instead of 10.2?

Hi Jon,

two of the aspects in maintaining a rating list is to give engines a decent number of games and also to make sure that the average opponent rating is not too high or low.
These are the two main reasons why older versions still get games here and there.

Regards, Graham.

Ok ..

I see Arasan won a nice game against Frenzee. Frenzee is strong but it was out-calculated in this case.

In Glaurung-Arasan, Glaurung played Neg5 here:

[d] 2br1n1k/rpb2qp1/2p1p2p/p3P3/P2PNp2/1PRB1N2/3Q1PPP/4R1K1 w - -

with a good + score. Pretty interesting move. I don't know if it is really best. Most engines don't want to play this (but might given more time).
