Alex and Naum 3- Buy - Not Buy?

Post by geots »

I think im in a unique position that the mods will allow this thread, ad tho it is , because in a sense i helped greatly in starting this uncertainty. Alex has a damn great program here- well, well worth more than what he is asking. In fact, i think in the end you will see it is a bargain. Look, for God's sake dont judge this program or base your purchase ideas on how it is performing against Rybka. As Mark Taimanov said about Fishcher, "i was playing chess- he was playing something else." Another one attributed to Fischer's play- "it was more witchcraft than chess". Thus it is with Rybka- it is from another galaxy in our solar system. It_Cannot_Be_Beat - (do i need to repeat that?) _In_A_Match_Of_Any_Length. We dont have any more problems like Uri had with the phrase "any length", do we? This is NOT ALEXS' FAULT.

Besides, my match could very well be an aberration. Not the result, but the one-sidedness of it to date. 16 games are so few...........

I think that we need some anti-rybka rating list to prove people that rybka can be not number 1.

The name of the list should be anti-rybka rating list because the list is not done to test strength of chess engines but only to prove people that there are positions that rybka is not number 1.

I suggest to use opening when rybka lost CCRL games for that list

You can use the following games as pgn to start the games(rybka lost with white in 40/40 CCRL games in all of these openings)

Note that I tried match of rybka2.3.2a 32 bit against toga1.4.1SE at time control of 40/1 and the result was 10-10(white-black was also ended as 10-10)

George you are wrong, Rybka can be beaten :
27 Fritz 11 -2919 3475 360 28 387 59.1 perf.
1 Rybka 2.3.2a x64 4CPU - 3094 58 5 27 26 31.9 2962
2 Rybka 2.3.2a x64 2CPU WM-2007 - 3055 108 6 52 50 29.6 2904
8 Zappa Mexico x64 4CPU - 3004 56 6 28 22 35.7 2902
10 Rybka 2.3.1 x64 2CPU - 2996 46 23 13 10 64.1 3096
as you see Fritz 11 beat easley Rybka 2.3.1, I know ...Rybka 2.3.2a is stronger, but I remember that Rybka 1.2 f was beaten by Zap!Chess, If you have a good tune Book against Rybka it would be beaten, look trough SSDF matchs, Junior was close, with own Book, So is possible that qhen Deep Fritz come , can beat Rybko in some match´s

Strange that you would mention Fritz 11, as it was on my mind as i was typing the above. Fritz 11 poses an entirely different set of problems for Rybka. It's referred to as "contrasting styles". It is the only program alive (did i say alive?) that can jump on Rybka early and cause her to have to sweat. To put it bluntly- at times Fritz outthinks Rybka. Pretty badly. But in a long match, Rybka will.......... well, reread my above thread.

In effect, you did not write about Fritz, but you say:It_Cannot_Be_Beat - (do i need to repeat that?) _In_A_Match_Of_Any_Length. And I just tell you, that Ryka was beaten, so why do write first :"In_A_Match_Of_Any_Length" and later you say:" But in a long match, Rybka will...." :?: . I'm star tor think wich's the main problem with Rybka?, all the programmers seem to be in panic, and turn their engine to play more solid, and Rybka still crush all of them, probably the key is write a programe that can search deeper and faster than Rybka more than change the play style, or maybe write a "heavy thinker" that have a very good eval function that prevents it to play in some positions with speculation and play very solid and attack only when it finds a clear way to win... a mix between Naum and Hiarcs, well I guess it can work, anyway !!! Regards
