Hello

I have this from time to time as well. To my knowledge this happens to others with other UCI engines as well when using the CB-GUI and a CB book. If someone can correct me and give a solution I would be really happy!

If you are experiencing this problem on the Playchess server then it is a known issue that if the scroll bars or chat text box is used then there is a very high probability that the engine/GUI communications will be lost, particularly when coming out of book. If you need to chat or use the scroll bars then pause or switch out of engine mode.

This issue is not limited to UCI engines because I have also had it occur with DF10 so native engines are at risk too!

The GUI9 version that came with Deep Junior 10 has been the most reliable on my XP systems to date. I cannot recall an engine failing during game play.

Even with SP3 and SP6 updates GUI10 still has some problems in XP. The updated engine DF10 vers 10.1.0.0 appeared reliable initially but now seems to be exhibiting all of the problems seen earlier with UCI engines i.e. diappearing move data and engine failing to communicate with GUI for extended periods then suddenly reappears. XP just reports Chessprogram10.exe as faulting application so it seems little more reliable than the initial release. This is specifically the DF version. The SP version may not have the same issues. The SP engine version is significantly different to the Deep version.

AK,

Is any of this also related to "runtime error?"

Hi
Sorry for this late answer i was very busy.
I played with ponder on. May be it's the problem. When using my DeepShredder ChessBase engine and not the UCI i have no problem.

I don't know also how to play as a Centaur which is i.m.h.o the best way to play interesting chess if u r at least a 2100 rated player.

Anabolic i think you got the right answer. In fact i was chatting during the games because i like exchanging experiences with the others.
It's outstanding the number of rybka engines that play there. Just two years previously, the main engines were Fritz then Shredder then Rybka the free version then Junior and Hiarcs. Now it's hard to find other opponents then Rybka clones??
