Rating list and tables. (In the rating list you will see rating changes since the previous report).

(This is my personal selection, where I include only well-tested free single-CPU engines. If you like, you can alter this selection, or even make completely different one using our web-site.)

Changes since the last report:

1. Hamsters 0.5 was added, ranked #38 currently! (among free single-CPU engines).

2. Abrok 5.0 was added, rating of 2561 and ranked #42.

3. Movei 0.08.438(10 10 10) was tested - 10 10 10 is an improved personality suggested by Uri. This new version is right now 101 points higher than Movei 0.08.403! As a result Movei is currently #7 Free Single-CPU engine!

4. Lot of gap-filling to extend the tested area to 16 cells up and down from diagonal.

Engines to be tested and added in future:
  • Sjeng 12.13
  • BugChess2 (suggested by author)
  • Twisted Logic 20070915 (suggested by author)
  • Spiderchess
  • Arasan 64-bit
  • Comet
  • Pepito
  • Nejmet
  • King of Kings
  • Dragon
  • Patzer
  • Petir 4.999999
  • Colossus 2007d
  • Fruit 2.3.3
  • Toga (Don't know yet which version to test, probably 1.3.1 default)
  • Delfi 5.2
(in no particular order)

Any comments or suggestions are welcome. :)

Best,
Kirill

I don't have many freeware engines. But what'd be cool is if someone has a freeware engine directory on their hard-drive who could zip it and put on a website. Or rather two directories, one for UCI and one for winboard

That would be a great gift to the community! That way people wouldn't have to go through the hassle of creating all the folders etc on their hard-drive

I'll do that myself if nobody else has one to go, but it'll take me a few months to get the engines I think

Thanks!

You can check where Rybka 1.0 Beta 32-bit stands in complete list, or in any of the sub-lists (like 32-bit single-CPU, etc, the links are on the main page below the rating list). Or you can just add it into my selection (my favorite method). :)

The list is not limited to 42 engines, but will grow as more engines are tested. For example, when Sjeng will be added, there will be 43 engines listed.

I am curious to test Sjeng 12.13 because it is the last free version of a program that turned commercial.

It is around the same strength as Betsy, Chezz etc. If I remember correctly there was a long absence before the release of the commercial version.

Yeah, first results show it is certainly weaker than the current bottom of my selection. Still it's a fine engine, more stable than some much stronger ones. And I don't have to worry about new version coming out tomorrow. (Though of course it will be great if new free Sjeng appears). :-)
