"The search more interesting than eval" --> that's exactly my reason to do NNUE ;-) Then I can forget about eval, figuring out NNUE in detail is some work, but in hindsight far FAR less work than handcoding and finetuning an eval (been there, it takes months/years to make it really good). And the NNUE code? Very few lines after all, way WAY less than fully handcoded eval. Sorry if I am over enthousiastic, I just started and the results blow me away...:-)

I am doing JAVA now and can't imagine going back to C++, somehow I can get things quicker done in JAVA. Python is even shorter, but too slow. Man, the things you can do in a 50 line Python script totally amazes me, at times I am jealous ;-)
I like NN engines but I am not interested in coding that. The search of the engine is far more interesting to me than the eval.
I spend most of my chess time analyzing chess puzzles and studies.
As for coding, my main thrust at work is C++ but we also do .net and java.

Many others but it's so long ago...yet I can't leave it alone in times of ML, nice to combine hobbies like chess, programming and ML. Is Bob Hyatt still active? And Bruce?
