Hala Majd,

Chess64 is the new chess program over which Fabien is working and it will be commercial, that's why by the way all the Fruit versions were given for free as it's development has practically stoped 8-)
Hello Dr. Wael, it is easy to guess that Chess 64 will be bitboard based and probably will be capable of using more processors, but it is news to me that it will be a commercial engine. Is this all just pure speculation or do you know more than the rest of us :o ?

Well I just would not want to bet on it. But I don't know anything more either. The chances of Fabien's new program playing in a tournament someday, are probably better than that of Ferret becoming commercial but beyond that.. There is not much pointing in that direction on the official website, you will agree with me . I just don't think Fabien has much interest in making it commercial and after all the FLAK he has been given in Reykjavik over making Fruit GPL... I just don't think that was much of a picnic either. I think that a GPL version is out of the question. But who knows... Maybe Fabien should start a new France based business with Gaston Lefevre in charge, Sorbonne Toolworks they could call it, wouldn't that be an idea? :)

Chess 64 was not mentioned in my post and I do not understand what you are talking about.

I am also surprised that all people who replied only tried to guess what is chess 64 and not why did you mention it.

I tried to search by google for chess64 and found only virtual chess and zap so I simply have no idea what you are talking about

Chess_64 is a totally new engine by Fabien (everything about it is completely different than Fruit). I do not know where it is in development now, but it was quite advanced one year ago.

I do not know if he ever plans to release it.

Code wise I completely agree that it is different than Fruit but many of the algorithms are the same. For example LMR is effectively identical to that of Fruit. In some ways I wish it could be released GPL to prove to the public that the ideas in Fruit can be written in ones own code and do just as well if not better. In a logical world this would put an end to illegal cloning and cloning accusations and instead let people focus on the good things in computer chess.
