6x versions replaced Stanback codebase with Letouzey codebaseydebilloez wrote: ↑Thu May 28, 2026 3:40 pm I see that in the CCRL rating lists, GNU chess 5.60 is the only one present. Meanwhile, in 2026, the latest version is 6.3.0. In the official download page, (https://ftp.gnu.org/gnu/chess/), 5.60 is not present.
My question is, what is the relation in between the latest 5.x release from the official download list (5.08) and 5.60. Is 5.60 still referential to GNU chess? Secondly, what is the difference in strength in between the different versions: 5.08, 5.60 and 6.3.0?The main point is the inclusion of a .eng file
For the 6.x series, I found more information here https://grokipedia.com/page/GNU_Chess
