The monthly on-line engine blitz tournament for April will take place on:

Saturday, April 11, 2:00 PM EST (Boston time) 20:00 CET (Amsterdam time)

To connect, use the following command:

winboard -zp -ics -icshost nightmare-chess.nl -icshelper timeseal -fcp ENGINE.exe -fd ENGINEFOLDER -autoKibitz -keepAlive 30
(For UCI engines, add -fUCI)

If you don’t have an account, please submit a request to admin@nightmare-chess.nl.

Our tournament manager will be Eendje (Lisebeth @ ICC).

The format will be 11 rounds, Swiss system, 4/1 time control.

Lisebeth prefers to start the tournament on the hour, so please log in 15 minutes early. Late entries are not supported.

20 minutes before the tournament started the server crashed again. The previous tournament (the one that ran stable) I had Linux-Mint kernel 6.17.0-20 replaced with mainline kernel 6.19.8. Yesterday I put 6.17.0-20 back, somehow this kernel is not completely stable in combination with the hardware I use. 15 minutes before the tournament started I swapped mainline kernel 6.19.8 back, now the server seems stable again.

ISA had engine problems, it has always been stable and suddenly it decided to start crashing, so eendje had to forfeit him. It looks a bit like what happened with the server.

Ah, so that is definite progress in determining what is causing the issue.

I didn't participate this time due to concern about possible power cuts with the adverse weather, but there weren't any - not yet anyway !

I'm still not sure about the cause of the issue, I only noticed that the crashes do not seem to appear with the newer kernel.

The software is a mess too, it's 30 years old C code, I spent a whole week on removing the most obvious bugs, but I'm sure there are still many left.
