Reed switches for Fidelty Avant Garde

Post by JohnW »

Hello, anyone here have experience with replacing reed switches in a Fidelity Avant Garde? I am looking to do that but I am unsure which ones to buy. I am following this article https://www.link-tothepast.com/tuto-rep ... ant-garde/
and it mentions "13mm ILS reed switches" but can't seem to find anything with that exact description. Thanks for your help..

Hello John:

I have absolutely no idea, but willing to help:
  • First of all, ILS means interrupteur à lames souples in French according to the article of your choice, which literally means 'reed switch'. So you can get rid of ILS in your searches from now.
  • 13 mm is about half an inch (½ inch = 12.7 mm). It seems to be the length of the capsule of the reed switch. I found some photos of this in an eBay or Amazon entry with a rule, but I closed the tab and can not find again. I found something similar for 14 mm in this photo with a rule and this draw.
  • Can be something like this or this? 14 mm reed switches are easier to find than 13 mm.
  • A quick search on the Internet says that there are different versions of Fidelity Elite Avant Garde. Please make sure what is yours.
  • The article of your choice in French language is from 2016, exactly like this thread at Hiarcs Forum. There is a link to a Flickr album and photos 15 to 18 seem to display reed switches. Please take a look on photo 17 for example, where reed switches seem to be labelled with S1, S2, ..., S40 to my untrained eye.
Please be careful and take my answer like a grain of salt. Good luck!

Regards from Spain.
