Speaking for myself, and this is a personal preference, I'd rather that the Stockfish team time the release of SF18 to the exact latest allowable day before the TCEC Premier League commences. Like the unveiling of a new F1 car before the season's major Grand Prix.

That's a long way off I suspect, plus the SF developers have their own timeline regardless.jkominek wrote: ↑Sun Jan 18, 2026 3:43 am Speaking for myself, and this is a personal preference, I'd rather that the Stockfish team time the release of SF18 to the exact latest allowable day before the TCEC Premier League commences. Using Season 28 as a guide, one and a half months from now. The Season 28 Cup ended 2025-06-18. The Premier League began 2025-08-03.Graham Banks wrote: ↑Sun Jan 18, 2026 3:48 amThat's a long way off I suspect, plus the SF developers have their own timeline regardless.jkominek wrote: ↑Sun Jan 18, 2026 3:43 am Speaking for myself, and this is a personal preference, I'd rather that the Stockfish team time the release of SF18 to the exact latest allowable day before the TCEC Premier League commences. But yes, the Stockfish team marches to their own sense of schedule. With having had a couple months to tune around their new Threat Input nets one can tell that they're feeling the time is due.

SF development does not have a timeline. The normalized Elo progress in the SF-progression testruns in the SF-framework must reach +100 (in singlethread and multithreading testrun) to latest full release (SF 17 right now, not 17.1), as far as I understood.Graham Banks wrote: ↑Sun Jan 18, 2026 3:48 amThat's a long way off I suspect, plus the SF developers have their own timeline regardless.jkominek wrote: ↑Sun Jan 18, 2026 3:43 am Speaking for myself, and this is a personal preference, I'd rather that the Stockfish team time the release of SF18 to the exact latest allowable day before the TCEC Premier League commences. It's on the github, in the official Stockfish site.

Click the green 'Code' button and then click the 'Download ZIP' button.

Or here:
https://github.com/official-stockfish/S ... h/releases
Whether that will actually be SF18 remains to be seen. I though they still wanted more Elo gains before releasing.
