Werewolf is right. Progress is always of note. If you prefer to wait a year or two or three and come back to check out a new version of Stockfish...you are welcome to.
Downloading stockfish is as interesting as downloading zillion versions+1 of crafty.

I remember (old) times when you really had something to say.
Nowadays you merely just fart...

So what do you do after downloading Stockfish?! Play against it. No.
Let it play against all the other versions of Stockfish?!
No.

What do you do with it ?!

Nobody is interested in stockfish.
This engine is as dead as fritz was under chessbase.
? It's the world leader and the best players are always downloading the latest version of it.
The world leader ?!?
It plays like an amateur against LC0.
Not on roughly equal hardware.

On equal hardware ?!

Stockfish plays with a search tree and has no idea about chess.
It cannot plan anything.
It has no clue how to move pieces.

It plays like a Neanderthaler.
While LC0 has an idea and a plan and tries it out.
And depending of the hardware, it will win.

Thats a completely new level of chess. And you can never reach that level with AB tree.
Now stockfish uses net too.

So the programmers have understood that they can never catch LC0 if they do not copy the method too.

To be honest. The programmers of stockfish have given up.

They came to the conclusion that there method cannot compete with LCO over a long distance.

So they now change stockfish to be like lc0.
Thats a complete resignation.

But hey.
Be happy and Download the latest stockfish version. The best is to use it on chess servers.
Against guys who also downloaded it.

Looks to me like a facebook bubble where the people IN the group „like“ the things all the others like.

So the algorithm shows the group what they want to see.

Thanks. I do that and see all the games in a pgn txt file...how do download them as a file with all the pgn games in it escapes me however.
Using Windows, I clicked the D8 square on the chessboard. That produced an html file with all the games. I then right clicked the mouse button, clicked Select All and then Copy. Pasted the contents into Notepad and saved as sf13vsf14 rebel.pgn

It saddens me that people can spew such bullshit with so much confidence and such bitterness in a public thread. You're really doing a disservice to the computer chess community by spreading so much disinformation and hatred.

Maybe you copied your stockfish commits from someone else too?
I will look into that.

If you squint, then one neural network looks pretty much like another. But if you have some basic knowledge of neural networks, then the NNUE of stockfish and the RESNet of lc0 are pretty far apart. The developers of stockfish have not been sitting still, either. They’ve done good work with new net architectures and a fast and flexible training framework.

I think they’re at the beginning of developing new architectures and possibly utilizing secondary networks for providing “strategic” insight. I see lc0 as having a tougher road ahead as far as revolutionary improvement goes, though it’s incremental improvement is pretty impressive.

All in all a pretty exciting time for computer chess.
Fat Titz by Stockfish, the engine with the bodaciously big net. Remember: size matters. If you want to learn more about this engine just google for "Fat Titz".

Sorry to me it looks like the resignation, a white flag of human chess programmers who burried history of human programming dignity to cope with an enemy that uses AI.

They never understood WHY they lost to LCO.
When e.g. Andrew Grant says HCE is coming to the end…

Its the coclusion that human designed evaluation together with search cannot compete with NN.

Its a resignation.

Or the consideration that the last years were all lost because they all relied on search instead of evaluation.

It was easier to go a ply deeper instead to do a working evaluation.

And today stockfish goes 40-50 searches deep depending on your hardware and still cannot beat lc0.

Thats a waterloo of search paradigm.
