Maybe we should not be too early to judge this person. After all, he said he will release the source. He said he changed many things, borrowed ideas from other programs + used some of his own ideas etc...
You are right, that makes a difference to me. I do think that full disclosure is important, and that part is not at all clear from his site.

It says right on the web site that it is a mod of ivanhoe. I don't have any problem with a person who is forthcoming like this. He is not claiming it is his original work which is refreshing.

That is a new addition to the site. I do agree that full disclosure changes everything.

Hello everyone,
I did not think to raise so much dust!

I will return here, as I wrote in another discussion of this site:

The tortuous history of DeepSaros.

I am not a professional programmer, but just an amateur. I wrote Deep Saros to employ an old version of IvanHoe. Began as a simple mod, then I started to add other ideas and other code. Something has been taken by Glaurung, Igorrit from other, more by Fruit, but other additions are my ideas ... In some cases I have taken portions of code, in other cases, only ideas that I later developed as a code.
The source program was IvanHoe, but you could still call IvanHoe? Changes are now so many ... So I decided to call it "doctor Frankenstein", then I changed my mind and I decided to call Deep Saros 2.
Deep Saros has slowly developed a personal style of play and was pleased with several people who asked me to open a web page, to download, but I speak badly English ... What to do? ... Then I saw the site of Robert Houdart and I thought, "he was surely right!" and so I have "inspired" to his page (I hope he will forgive me!).
It all started for mere personal entertainment! I did not want to raise so much fuss ... I hope I have not done anything illegal!
I apologize again for my bad English.

In these cases the question is: how many and how important the adds were?
After all a Porsche in a sense is the result of lot of additions to a simple car.

A nice pink fur coating on the wheel would be a nice addition to a Porsche.

Here's one for BMW ;)

Your original oversight was to fail to mention the origin of the program.
It appears that you are addressing these sorts of issues.

Hem ...
The web page I had open was made only for some of my friends, for my comfort... I was sick of sending my mod via e-mail.

So I do not understand how it became so "famous" ... Power of the internet!
Later I saw my name and my poor MOD appear on many websites and I thought: "Oh my God! But what happened?". So I quickly explained that the program is not original, it's just a mod, created for personal entertainment and some friends ...
I repeat: I'm just a passionate amateur who likes to play with C-language and with the chess engines. Of course, I do not want to "steal" the work of anyone! :-)

I don't see anything about Deep Saros 2.3c3 at this site. There is source code for 0.9 based on Fruit (or Toga), but no source for other versions.

Is this yet another engine created from the stolen Rybka code?

If the clones can easily be proven to be tweaked versions of Rybka (eg using large portions of code that didn't exist before Rybka was published) then why doesn't Vas take legal action against the "authors" of these other engines?
