I left my Quad on overnight playing Chess on Playchess. It likes to do that from time to time, so I figured why not since it's the Memorial Weekend over here. Why not let the computer have a little fun? When I woke up this morning around 6:30AM and went to my desk and found my computer playing none other than that old champ from the past ..., MChess Pro version 8. For those who don't remember that version was released around 1998-1999 by Marty Hirsch. It was being operated by a gentleman named Andreas Wutzke who was in the Playchess engine room playing in Centaur mode so he could relay the moves using some custom setting he developed.
MChess was playing on a AMD 2400 XP+ 2 GHz system versus Rybka 3 on a Intel Q6700 Core 2 Quad 2.67GHz. I can't tell you much about the MChess opening book or it's settings because I either don't know and or don't remember many details about the program from back then, but I can tell you that I had Rybka 3 using Jeroen's Aquarium Rybka 3 Opening Book installed using the Aquarium Book Adapter.
The Opening was a Sicilian Najdorf Poisoned Pawn variation.
[d]rnb1kb1r/1p3ppp/pq1ppn2/6B1/3NPP2/2N5/PPPQ2PP/R3KB1R b KQkq - 0 8
Rybka 3 played a Novelty on move 15 with 15. Nf3, but it was not enough to show that black could not survive by taking the b2 pawn in the opening.
[d]rnb1k2r/1p1nqpp1/p3p2p/4P3/3N4/2N5/P1PQB1PP/1R2K2R w Kkq - 0 15
By move 43 a draw was offered by Rybka, which was accepted.

" still intend to release this and I have started working on it, but have many other projects going, so it will take a while. I am hoping to make it available by fall 2009.
Cheers,
Marty Hirsch"

Re: Old but not forgotten
In the 10th AEGON event at the Hague (May 1995), M-Chess 5.0 beat Christiansen and Z. Polgar and finished with a performance rating of 2652!
It also beat Grandmasters:
Rhode
Shabalov
Cifuentes
Wolff
So yes, it would be nice to see Marty come out with a new release.
