Hi Christophe,

thanks for your new version!

Shortly:
Do you have today contacts to other French programmers from the ealier Winboard times, like Franck ZIBI, Christian BARRETAU, Bruno LUCAS, Jean-Christophe GABILLARDAND, Eric TRIKI, Sylvain RENARD, Frédéric LOUGUET, Marc-Philippe HUGET, Eric MARATHEE or others from this great times ... is the tourney in Massy still being organized? At that time, the many French programmers --- powerd the engine protocols a lot --- had organized themselves very well in their own forum, today available? Perhaps under a new www address?

After I remember you are also in that group (forum).
I believe the BBChess programmer organized the forum, or it was Sylvain.

Maybe Christian is back from Mauritius or the others are still working on his great engines. Chess Wizard was the first engine with GM level in a human GM tourney, over 2600 Elo. Maybe the strongest chess programs World Wide at this time, but never available.

Very nice people, all of them and supported us in Arena development times.

Best
Frank

Hi Franck,

I have not any contact with the french programmers of that epoch.
There is no french tournament organized since 2005 as far as I know. No internet forum still exists. In 2003 or 2004 I had proposed to organize an automatized tournament with a Winboard or Arena gui to play the games. Without follow up.
Chess Wizard was a Crafty clone. The author had apologized and lost his titles. Sylvain Renard, the organizer of the tournaments had written a message about this on a chess forum.
My engine works well with the Arena 3.10 gui under Linux, and with Winboard 4.8.0/xboard 4.9.1 also. I remember that the Knightx logo (the knight with a sword and a shield) first appeared in the Arena interface in the early 2000s.

Hi Christophe,

not know that with Chess Wizard!

From time to time I created computer-chess breaks, you know.
Half of my life is spent ironing out problems that I got myself into in the other half.

:-)

Your logo ... I know, that is very very nice!

It's a shame, so many talented chess programmers comes from French in that epoch.
I had a live telephone connection to Franck ZIBI for a Computer Chess World Championship.
Thousands of follower daily because no one else reported.

Talking to Franck on the phone alone was an event. A very funny guy.
You know, my English is bad. But Franck understand all what I like to asked for the live comments.

Thank you Christophe!
You've been here so long, that is very nice to see that and I like it a lot.

Have a nice day!

Best
Frank

The link works now, but as it is an old http server without a secure connection, it may be blocked by your firewall or your browser.

Hi Christophe,

Testing version 4.6 I found this game. Unfortunately I can't tell what the illegal move was, maybe something with the promotion to knight. Of course black was losing anyway.

Hi Gabor,
The program does not recognize the under promotion (at the root position not in the search) so it does not see the king in check.
I will release a fix soon. I don't know how many is the elo loss, the under promotion is not played so often.
Thank you for reporting the problem.
Christophe
