I updated to W11 finally with a surprise
Stockfish runs now 5% faster for free. I remember to read here, that W11 was slower. Maybe first version?

For Windows 10 users in the EU, I just read that they have a new option to receive one more year of the Microsoft security updates, without having to synchronize the Windows settings (put them in the cloud) if your computer is not (yet) synchronized. You find the option when you go to the usual Settings -> Windows Update or Alle instellingen -> Bijwerken en beveiliging -> Windows Update.
If you're not synchronized, you still can register there.
In Dutch, the news article that I read was here: https://www.nu.nl/tech/6371200/microsof ... engen.html

Anout Jouni's result, I don't remember that Jouni has a new Ryzen, but there was a small Windows update last year that gave a small speed up for Ryzen Zen in Windows 11 viewtopic.php?p=967980#p967980 But I don't think that is the case with Jouni's computer, unless he has that CPU. But have not kept track of all the differences between Windows versions just read that one by chance then.

Quick opinion: Windows is highly complex, and it's really difficult to truly understand everything that's going on. Working out why you got this improvement would be a project on the scale of a PhD dissertation.

This 5% was with "speedtest" command. Multicore test so verifying this in test positions is almost impossible.

I NEVER update to Microsoft's latest OS as you are the guinea pig. Let me know when you can download from MS App store without it being a major complication. I will pass. Windows 10 is fine with me.

There was another surprise. My 5 years old PC boots now in exactly 15 seconds
. W10 needs 30 to 40 seconds lately. Free RAM is not changed.
