Senserobot

Post by pohl4711 »

There is a new chess robot, introduced on CES 2025, called Senserobot

I bought this great machine, using german Amazon. It is just mindblowing (right now, only 747€). The first chessrobot, playing really strong (from beginner level up to grandmaster and beyond). The immersion is just on another level, compared to self-moving chessboards:
This is the first time the "chess-turk" becomes reality (without being a hoax) and everybody can buy one, so the Senserobot makes this 250 years old dream finally come true:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mechanical_Turk

You can play the AI (offline) or play online on LiChess vs humans, using the robot, making their moves on my board.
How awesome is that?

The Senserobot smartphone App is only needed for setting up the Wifi of the robot and to save the games as a pgn-file. For playing, you just need the robot and a power outlet. And a very solid table (robot is over 5kg !!!).

I very strongly recommend, buying this device. It is the coolest chesscomputer of all time, IMHO.

From the website:
SenseRobot accurately identifies all chess pieces in real time, with over 99.9% recognition accuracy — ensuring every move starts with the right information. The robotic arm delivers millimeter-level positioning and uses a soft yet firm grip — strong enough to hold each piece securely, gentle enough to avoid any damage. A built-in magnetic system keeps each piece firmly in place, ensuring stable positioning even if the board is nudged or moved.
SenseRobot uses a custom-built AI designed for realistic, human-like play and adaptive difficulty. Unlike Stockfish, which focuses on maximum strength for top-level analysis, SenseRobot’s AI is better suited for learning, practice, and casual games.
SenseRobot supports updates and will continue to receive new features and improvements over time.
You can use AI-powered move hints and takebacks during a game. Press the right arrow button for a hint (up to 3 times per game)Press the left arrow button to take back a move (up to 3 times per game)

Correct. Moving a piece takes the robot from 6 up to 15 seconds (capture-moves are 2 moves in a row for the arm). Average time for moving in a full game is around 12 seconds. The robot AI thinks only 1 second, so there is no additional thinking-time.

PS: There is a GO playing version of the robot, too. And a third edition (to come), playing GO, Chess and other board games. But here Chess only using 2D-Chips instead of 3D-pieces.

There were previous dedicated chess computers that moved their own pieces. Both Novag and Fidelity made one.

Thank you for showing us that. Looks great!
Human chess is partly about tactics and strategy, but mostly about memory

But none of these played really strong. This is the first commercial chess-robot using an arm to move pieces, AND playing really strong, since the chess turk of 1769.
