Huge Amount of Cores Question

Post by Leo »

I can't remember the name of the site. It lists giant nodes per second using huge amounts of cores. Has any of these machines played games of chess or been tested to find chess position solutions that have not been done before?

Most people in the world cannot afford a processor with more than 72 cores. These computers are incredibly expensive these days and don't forget that most people in the world live in poverty.

Also don't forget that digital electronic computers need replacement after every 11 years because the electronics inside the computer begins to corrupt until the computer fails.

The privilege of owning a computer with more than 72 cores is for rich people only.

Only super-rich people can afford an Intel processor with more than 192 cores.

You cannot beat 8 core Stockfish from balanced opening. Extra cores have minimal help today.

I believe that some people can. But it requires a very talented and experienced player with a very deep knowledge of the game. Perhaps someone like Magnus Carlsen or maybe even better than Carlsen.

Sure, but we can dream, can't we"

Taking ideas is not a vice, it is a virtue. We have another word for this. It is called learning.
But sharing ideas is an even greater virtue. We have another word for this. It is called teaching.

True if time control is not too fast. This is the experience from correspondence chess. And
whether you're a GM then or not makes zip (*) difference (if you avoid opening mistakes
and you can avoid that by simply using the Chinese database).

At bullet time time control, some extra cores may help (to beat other computers/engines;
beating Nakamura or Carlsen can be done with 2 (or even 1) cores i guess).

(*) there are a still a few people who don't believe that, i don't care

Also remember Bicknell test. Stockfish 17 is not solving better after 2 cores! Yes 64 cores was not better than 2 in test positions :o .

Do you mean this thread here: https://www.talkchess.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=84749 ? If so, there was no definite conclusion.
