Which chess variation simulates a modern war best

Post by Henk »

ChatGPT:

"Modern Chess" which is a modification of traditional chess and some pieces have been replaced with modern military units such as tanks, helicopters, and aircraft carriers.

"Future Chess" which is another variation that features futuristic military units such as robots and spaceships.

"Nuclear Chess" which is similar to traditional chess but with the addition of nuclear bombs that can be used to destroy enemy pieces and certain parts of the board.

It is important to note that these variations are not widely accepted, and not played in official chess tournaments, and are not considered official variations of the game.

Also, these variations might not be well balanced and might be hard to find players to play with them.

The historic Japanese variant (from the Edo period) 'Tenjiku Shogi' would be a good candidate for this. It contains an airforce ('jumping generals', which can fly over an arbitrary number of pieces in order to capture), and weapons of mass destruction in the form of the Fire Demons (which 'burn' all enemy pieces in the 3x3 area surrounding them).

"The drunken elephant can move one square in any direction except directly backward, giving it seven directions of movement"

Maybe remove some types or do you think they use dronken elephants in modern warfare.
