Chess for iOS (iPhone/iPad/iPod) blog created

Post by JuLieN »

There it is, I finally managed to put my lazy fingers at work and create a blog about chess programs for our iOS devices, as I yet suggested that should be done on several occasions. :)

Here is the baby:
http://chessforios.blogspot.com/

It is really a new born, still to be polished, so please tell me what you think.

For a starter, I just copied/pasted the review I made yesterday of Chess Tiger for iPhone. ;)

Looks great though one issue: I wanted to share/recommend the link via Facebook, but the icon at the bottom of the article shows the shared link as (no title) etc. Can this be rectified?

Thanks Albert :)

And thx for reporting the FB share problem.. I just tried it too and had the same problem. After a bit of Googling, it seems that the problem comes from Facebook recently modifying things. Blogger will probably soon adapt to this new behavior, but since then you'll have to copy/paste the link directly into FB to get a good result. :)

Here's for instance someone reporting the same problem today on Blogger's devblog:
Facebook Share Button No Longer Working Report abuse

I've had no trouble using Blogger's share buttons since starting my blog back in December. Today I changed to a new template and changed the fonts on my posts, blog title, and blog description.

Now my Facebook share button (at the bottom of each post) no longer works.

I can share to Twitter fine.

When trying to share to Facebook, this is the error:

(No Title)
http://http%3A%2F%2Fcandelierious.blogsp...

And if I continue to hit "share" Facebook states: "There was an error posting this item" and the window automatically closes.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. I am not good with HTML and do not want to add a button. I like just checking the box in the dashboard to have those buttons appear at the bottom of my posts!

Thanks!

Any update? Chess Tiger can't be the only iOS chess on the market.

They're not all for iOS, though...

Today a new chess game has been released for iPad and iPhone: MorphChess. It's a 3D chess game à la Battlechess. But it is really bad, so bad that I'm not so motivated to test it. It crashed after a dozen moves in the first game I just played.... Just when it was going to lose... cheater! It is slow, painful to use, it crashes and it costs 1.59€ :x There are several better "BattleChess-like" chess programs in the AppsTore, like "Chess : Battle of the Elements", that I really like. Here's a video of Battle Of The Elements on iPhone (it looks even better on iPad) :

I might review it, though.... When I have time.

Has anyone attempted to determine which of the various iOS chess engines is the strongest?

I'm very surprised that you actually paid for one of the 3D chess game. Those games are very badly written, their only selling points are their crappy 3D graphics. More suitable for kids.

Thanks for your concerns, Tim. :) But I'm kind of a collector, plus I intend to test everything and like to be exhaustive. Also, some of those 3D programs are actually quite good anyway.
Last but not least, I kind of am a specialist of "crappy" engines, being the author of one of them, mine not even being 3D! ;)

Also, there's at least a dozen of those 3D Chess Programs, some being really well done (if you don't focus on their strength), giving the user some awe for their money. :)
