The Q6600 is going to be $266! That is simply fantastic considering its current price, that is a 50% price drop.
Quads will become standard. I hope this will revolutionize multi-processing programming in chess.
The Intel Q6600 will be $266 USD!

Well this has been the trend for a few years now, new technology priced high initially and then prices dropping hard later. Of course the drop is timed to coincide with AMD's quad core release at about the same time.
It will take a while for quads to become standard, as most people operate at least a 2-3yr replacement cycle for their PCs. Although admittedly the Intel quad will just drop straight into many Core 2 Duo motherboards with just a BIOS update, so many people may do that

That will have to be the deal of the century. A Quad core high performance processor for $266. The Q6600 can easily cruise at 3Ghz ... imagine ... 4 cores at 3Ghz for $266. Multiple Processor platforms are here to stay.

has dropped from 30 some dollars to a little more than 15 bucks
today. Maybe they will come up with a new chip that will be better.

Rumor is that Intel will release the next upgrade, Penryn, in mid-July, which would explain the July 22 price cut.

Hi Leto,
Penryn is still slated for a late Q4 or early Q1 2008 launch. July 15 is the end of the NDA for ES.
K10 is slated for July/August. Desktops only in Christmas.
