GaiaChess 4.3.3

Post by j_romang »

GaiaChess 4.3.3 is out: release page :D

What's new:
  • NUMA aware. On a dual-socket 192-thread machine, that is +16 % (opening) to +92 % (endgame) nodes per second.
  • Up to 1024 threads.
  • All 214 search parameters retuned together, worth about +15 Elo.
  • Fixes: en passant captures in SEE, and Syzygy draws at the root now shown as 0.00.
Gaia should be able to compete with the top engines now.

All feedback welcome!

Will have to give this version a miss, as I'm still only halfway through a 4.3.2 Gauntlet.

Hi Graham,

No problem at all, finishing the 4.3.2 gauntlet makes perfect sense. Thanks a lot for taking the time to test Gaia, it's really appreciated, and I'm looking forward to the results! :D

The release pace has been quite fast lately, but progress should slow down a bit from now on, so the next versions should be easier to fit into your testing schedule.

Finally, progress has not slowed down :D ! GaiaChess 4.4.1 is out: release page - it should be around +30 elo stronger.

What's new:
  • New network, trained from scratch with a new recipe: same architecture, a clear step up in strength.
  • About forty search fixes: stop and ponderhit handling, go mate, MultiPV, SEE with pinned pieces, quiescence in check, tablebases at the root.
  • GaiaTB tables shared between processes on Linux, like the network weights: much less memory when running many engines at once.

As always, all feedback welcome !

Hello,

A head-to-head match between two engine versions is not a reliable measure of their actual Elo difference, but here are the test results for the two latest versions :D :

Gaia 4.4.1 vs Gaia 4.3.3, 1+0.1, 1318 games
Elo: 56.65 +/- 10.24, nElo: 105.67 +/- 18.76
LOS: 100.00 %, DrawRatio: 47.42 %
Games: 1318, Wins: 453, Losses: 240, Draws: 625, Points: 765.5 (58.08 %)
Ptnml(0-2): [5, 72, 314, 241, 27]
LLR: 2.96 (-2.94, 2.94) [0.00, 3.00] normalized

GaiaChess 4.4.2 is out: release page - it should be around +20 elo stronger than 4.4.1.
What's new:
  • New network: most of the gain comes from there
  • About 6% more nodes per second: threat features are now updated from the move played, on every SIMD tier.
  • ARM64 now searches exactly the same tree as x86-64.
