Stockfish with Threat Input Net is finally here, no longer a regression in STC (caused by the severe speedloss, when using TI).
As expected, the Celo-gain gets bigger with longer thinking-time.

What is a "threat input net"?
Human chess is partly about tactics and strategy, but mostly about memory

I suppose TI is meant, with the use of graphic cards, same as with Lc0.

Fascinating that the addition of smarts even at what must be great cost in speed gives gains, even in CPU environmentpohl4711 wrote: ↑Mon Nov 10, 2025 8:54 am Stockfish with Threat Input Net is finally here, no longer a regression in STC (caused by the severe speedloss, when using TI).

From Stockfish developers:
On arm machines specifically we’ve hit the sf 18 target already
The difference is that insane
you mean the Elo target is met due to speed increase?
Threat inputs is like +15 elo on arm machines yes
Compared to neutral so far on x86

Perfect for those Qualcomm Snapdragon X Elite based laptops on the market now, and the next generation of them due early next year.

Re: Stockfish TI is coming
TI means, the net does not get only the board position as input, but also, which pieces are hanging or threating other pieces and so on.
This means, of course, a higher computing effort. That leads to a 20%-25% speedloss compared to a non-TI net with the same size.

+ we will see more and more ARM laptops.
+ nearly every mobile phone uses ARM, so it's like a big + for everybody
+ compared to amd and intel, with arm we are still at the beginning so we will see a lot of elo+ and speedups on arm devices.
- but engine developers (not only Stockfish developers) must find these improvements.
