..in my humble opinion, unless a better concept is provided, as journalists would say, I want to express that the truly reasonable thing to do regarding the parameters of the battlefield in man-versus-machine combat is to leave the standard FIDE rules intact. I found that the following game is declared by lichess to be a draw for no reason because black promoted a biship at move 284 and it is certainly not a draw by repetition.

I am thinking chess is in a coin.Human beings for ever playing in one face. Now I am playing in the other face:"Antichess". Computers are as a fortres where owner forgot to close a little door behind. You must enter across this door.Forget the front.

I agree but note that the 300 move rule that is against the fide rule is not something new and Larry Kaufnam is not responsible for lichess rules.Father wrote: ↑Fri Sep 12, 2025 6:00 pm..in my humble opinion, unless a better concept is provided, as journalists would say, I want to express that the truly reasonable thing to do regarding the parameters of the battlefield in man-versus-machine combat is to leave the standard FIDE rules intact. The reason for the 300 move rule is not related to the leaderboard because lichess had this rule before leela started to play with odds.

Re: Mr. Larry Kaufman. Mr. Naphthalin. Attention. Mr. Uri Blass. Respected Sirs.
I looked at more games with 300 moves
In one of them I was surprised that lc0 does not know to win KBN vs K
I hope you fix it and I think LeelaQueenOdds should play the same as default lc0 at least as soon as lc0 believes it has a clear advantage and maybe even if lc0 believes it got an equal position.

In one of them I was surprised that lc0 does not know to win KBN vs K
I hope you fix it and I think LeelaQueenOdds should play the same as default lc0 at least as soon as lc0 believes it has a clear advantage and maybe even if lc0 believes it got an equal position.

Re: Mr. Larry Kaufman. Mr. Naphthalin. Attention. Mr. Uri Blass. Respected Sirs.
Uri... If I remember correctly, I think I've played games with more than 300 moves, but the thing is that I don't have a record of my games and I don't know how to consult them until a certain point or date... This small and quick game that I just played in bullet almost reached three hundred moves but I didn't make it... A game as fast as "thunder and lightning."Uri Blass wrote: ↑Fri Sep 12, 2025 7:46 pm I looked at more games with 300 moves

I am thinking chess is in a coin.Human beings for ever playing in one face. Now I am playing in the other face:"Antichess". Computers are as a fortres where owner forgot to close a little door behind. You must enter across this door.Forget the front.

Re: Mr. Larry Kaufman. Mr. Naphthalin. Attention. Mr. Uri Blass. Respected Sirs.
Rating rules are different from play rules. Play is governed by FIDE rules except as modified for online play, such as automatic draw by repetition and 50 move rule rather than requiring claims, no touch-move rule, etc., and in the case of LiChess a 300 move draw rule that applies to all games, not specially to engine games. Rating rules vary, FIDE itself keeps changing their rules, which differ substantially from US chess (and other national) rating rules. Some people have advocated that even for human ratings, draws should not be rated, but I wouldn't favor that radical a policy. But some limitations on which draws should be rated are reasonable, whether based on number of moves, amount of remaining material, or the current rule that no more than six draws can be rated until you win a game. We want to encourage anyone playing for a spot on the Leaderboard to choose a time limit at which they can win at least one game out of five or so. This doesn't require a very high level of skill for queen odds in the Rapid range.Father wrote: ↑Fri Sep 12, 2025 6:00 pm..in my humble opinion, unless a better concept is provided, as journalists would say, I want to express that the truly reasonable thing to do regarding the parameters of the battlefield in man-versus-machine combat is to leave the standard FIDE rules intact. For example, the value of a draw should not be varied, much less ignored; the number of moves in the game should not be arbitrarily restricted to a specific number of moves; humans have and should have every right to use the resources of their own human knowledge, their own imagination, and their own experience. The first thing I recommend is to restore the parameters for determining Elo to the canons and natural paths. All these modifications that have been made will, in the long run, go against the very interests they have sought to protect: "the machines and the Masters." All of this will have a "boomerang effect" against "both." With the greatest respect, I call on you to "erase from the classification and set to zero without points all the people in all the standings of the best hundred humans in each robot and start again on the right path; then apply the FIDE norms of evaluation to victory, draw and defeat; only in this way will it be possible to know who are the true human leaders in this peculiar battle of "man against machine." The rest will be "makeup and disguise the faces of the life of "man against machine," with masks.lkaufman wrote: ↑Fri Sep 12, 2025 5:39 pmFrom what I read on the internet it is not a bug but a policy decision at least seven years old by LiChess to declare all games drawn after 300 moves, although that is not a standard chess rule. I'll leave it for others to comment on why they did so or whether it is a good policy.Uri Blass wrote: ↑Fri Sep 12, 2025 4:50 pm It seems that there is a bug in lichess that consider long games of 300 moves by both sides to be draws for no good reason.
I found that the following game is declared by lichess to be a draw for no reason because black promoted a biship at move 284 and it is certainly not a draw by repetition.

I found that the following game is declared by lichess to be a draw for no reason because black promoted a biship at move 284 and it is certainly not a draw by repetition.

Fide basically change K to decide about the speed the rating change but it is not based on results of the player.
You can have K=40 or K=20 or K=10 based on the age of the player or the rating of the player or experience of the player
or you can reduce K for people who play too many games in a month but you do not reduce K for draws or decide that K=0 for people who draw too many games.

Re: Mr. Larry Kaufman. Mr. Naphthalin. Attention. Mr. Uri Blass. Respected Sirs.
There is another rating rule that FIDE has changed recently. A year ago they added a rule (which I think had been in effect many years ago but was rescinded) that rating differences of more than 400 will be counted as just 400. This has already caused Hikaru Nakamura to gain 9 FIDE elo points in two weeks with wins over low rated players. The point is that rating rules, unlike chess-play rules, are not universal or constant for long periods of time. Rules that work well with adults don't work well with kids, and certainly rating of odds games between engines and humans is more different than those two cases.Uri Blass wrote: ↑Sat Sep 13, 2025 9:37 amFor rating rules fide keeps changing the rules but it is not something similiar to the rules in the Leela LeaderBoard.lkaufman wrote: ↑Sat Sep 13, 2025 7:16 amRating rules are different from play rules. We want to encourage anyone playing for a spot on the Leaderboard to choose a time limit at which they can win at least one game out of five or so.

Don't blame the "machines"; it is a long-standing LiChess rule (for all games) that 300 moves results in a draw. If you play chess on LiChess against anyone, you should keep this rule in mind. It isn't a FIDE rule, but online play does have its own rules, which differ sometimes from FIDE rules, and even differ among servers (for example, if time runs out and you have for example N vs N only, I believe chess.com calls it a draw and LiChess calls it a loss).
Komodo rules!
