Game 34 - Houdini equalises with tactical sequence.

Post by Graham Banks »

GAME 34

Houdini equalises with a tactical sequence. Although it seems that Komodo might still have a positional edge, in reality there is nothing in the position for either side and a draw results. The match score is now +1 =32 -1.

Game 35 - Komodo overcomes Houdini sac to take 2-1 lead

Post by Graham Banks »

GAME 35

In a Semi-Slav line, Houdini tries to take advantage of an open g-file on the kingside by saccing a knight. However, Komodo has too many counter-attacking possibilities on the queenside and in the centre, and breaks the game open. Houdini again gives up material to effectively go a rook down for five pawns. With nothing coming of the kingside pressure from Houdini, Komodo gradually improves its situation to go on and win. Komodo goes ahead for the first time in the match at +2 =32 -1.

Truly, one needs to be stronger than Kramnik to avoid the mate in 1 here!

Game 36 - Komodo gets adventurous, but can't crack Houdini

Post by Graham Banks »

GAME 36

With Houdini's kingside looking vulnerable, Komodo sacs a bishop to initiate a sequence that sees it give up three minor pieces for queen and connected passed pawns. Houdini's king walks over to the safety of the queenside, there isn't really anything in the position to suggest that either side can win. The game is drawn, leaving Komodo ahead by +2 =33 -1.

Game 37 - an interesting game, but drawn. Komodo leads 2-1

Post by Graham Banks »

GAME 37

This is an interesting game. Houdini gives up a kingside pawn and then castles queenside, with the aim of making life awkward for the opposing king. However, Komodo defends nicely and secures a perpetual check. Komodo leads by +2 =34 -1.

Game 38 - when is a game not a game?

Post by Graham Banks »

GAME 38

When is a game not a game? As white, Komodo is less adventurous than Houdini in this opening line, and opts for an early repetition. Komodo leads by +2 =35 -1.
